Adulthood or DOOHTLUDA?

Welcome back, Soldier!

Now, let’s delve deep into the crucial arena of BUILDING CAPACITY—a battlefield in its own right.

Whether you find yourself on the student front, grinding in the professional world, or recently enlisted into the ranks of parenthood (congratulations, by the way!), the demanding nature of adulting can often feel like a relentless assault on your time and energy. It’s not uncommon to look at those seemingly superhuman individuals who effortlessly incorporate reading into their lives and wonder, “Do they have more than 24 hours in a day?”

Let’s get real for a moment. I’ve been there—my life was a roller coaster. I would marvel at those who found time to read amid the chaos of work, side hustles, and family responsibilities. I tried every solution and tip out there—time management, the elusive quest to wake up earlier (as if I wasn’t sleep-deprived enough), and various productivity hacks. Yet, amidst prayers, intentional time with God (which, let’s be honest, takes at least 2 hours if you’re truly diving deep), perhaps a bit of gym, the demands of lectures, jobs, cooking, cleaning, and, for my friends in Nigeria, the perpetual struggle against traffic, taking care of kids—where on earth is the time for sustained reading supposed to magically materialize?

Engaging in consistent and sustained reading, I recognized the enduring nature of this practice, realizing that intellectualgrowth is not a one-day affair but a continuous journey. Understanding the timeless principles of God, I embraced the idea of studying to show myself approved, aligning with the wisdom that emphasizes skill development to stand before kings. The awareness that God’s people perish due to lack of knowledge fueled my curiosity, prompting a sincere quest for understanding and a commitment to continuous learning, Despite my recognition of the importance of sustained reading, I found myself grappling with the practical aspects. Burnout became a prevalent challenge, casting a shadow on my efforts to engage consistently in this vital practice.

Haha, welcome to the realm of “Adulthood or DOOHTLUDA?” It’s like a wrestling match where either you conquer adulthood, or it gives you a beating from every direction.

I once spoke with a senior executive and assumed her life was busier than mine, but she surprised me when she mentioned reading books. The analogy hit me hard, making me feel insufficient. I mean, she’s older and seemingly doing more, right? But is that really the whole truth? What if I’m actually “busier” but not as fruitful? That’s where our discussion begins.

Here’s the hard truth: you might be spinning the wheels of busyness, but are you truly reaping the fruits of productivity? This revelation didn’t dawn on me spontaneously; credit goes to someone I’ve followed and learned from for years—Apostle Tobi Arayomi. If you catch his Instagram live sessions, get ready for truths that’ll make your legs shake. Years ago, while I was watching him, he dropped a bombshell: “Some of you are busy but not fruitful, and that’s your problem.” It hit me like a ton of bricks; it was my wake-up call. If he could, he might as well have knocked on my door, because it was ME he was talking about. Goodness, was I BUSY! Busy, busy, busy—doing everything but not really accomplishing much. No more! Not this year! Can I get an “Amen” or a “NOT AGAIN” in church terms?

We’re on a mission to crack the code of adulthood and make it work for us, not against us.

How about you? Can you relate? Are you busy but not fruitful in your assignment? I think it’s high time we discussed this topic in detail. I mean, we are the righteousness of God and are never disadvantaged.

Well, i will stop here for now, so that you get to meditate on the point in life you are in; it’s either you are ‘doing’ life well or life is ‘doing’ you ( DOOHTLUDA ). Think about it and outline what areas of life need an escape from the blows of DOOHTLUDA, okay?

Stay tuned, Soldier!

Amazing article Sharon. DOOHTLUDA is definitely a thing. It is very easy to fall into that trap of doing a lot of stuff but not actually being productive. Looking forward to this series.
