When Comfort Isn’t Confirmation
Dear Royalty,
Let’s be honest, peace feels good.
It’s the emotional sigh of relief, the sense that everything is okay, the inner calm we all crave.
But here’s the problem:
Not every feeling of peace is from God.
Sometimes, what feels like peace is simply the absence of resistance.
And sometimes, that resistance was the Holy Spirit trying to stop you from moving too fast.
Peace Is Not Always Proof
One of the most sobering stories in Scripture is that of Jonah.
God gave him a clear instruction:
“Go to Nineveh.”
Jonah ran in the opposite direction- to Tarshish.
But here’s the part most people miss:
On that boat, sailing in disobedience, Jonah had enough peace to sleep.
He wasn’t afraid. He wasn’t anxious. He was resting… while running.
Because disobedience doesn’t always feel chaotic, sometimes it feels comfortable.
And that’s the danger.
We assume peace equals permission.
But what if it’s just distance from conviction?
The Counterfeit Peace of the Soul
There’s a kind of peace that doesn’t come from God, it comes from the soul.
Your soul (mind, will, and emotions) can fabricate a calm that feels right but is rooted in avoidance. It can silence guilt with logic. It can bypass conviction with self-talk. It can suppress God’s voice under the weight of personal comfort.
It’s what happens when we:
- Stay in a relationship we weren’t called to, because “it feels peaceful now”
- Accept a job God never told us to take, because “it makes sense”
- Choose silence when God is prompting us to speak, because “I just don’t want drama”
That kind of peace isn’t spiritual, it’s soulish. And if you’re not careful, you’ll call comfort confirmation, and miss your calling.

True Peace Often Comes After Obedience, Not Before
One thing i am learning is that God’s peace doesn’t always come before the decision, sometimes it comes after the surrender (it’s a funny reality).
Before Jesus went to the cross, He wrestled.
He said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.”
He didn’t feel peace, He felt pressure.
But after His surrender “Not My will, but Yours be done” He walked forward with resolve.
Sometimes, the peace comes once you lay down your will.
Not before.
So How Can You Tell If Your Peace Is Real?
Here are 4 questions to ask yourself:
- Does this peace align with Scripture?
If the “peace” you feel contradicts God’s Word, it’s not peace, it’s deception. - Is this peace birthed from prayer, or from avoidance?
Did you talk to God, or just silence your fears? - Am I calling it peace because it requires no sacrifice?
God’s peace doesn’t always feel easy, it feels right. - Have I confused the absence of anxiety with the presence of the Spirit?
Some things feel good because we stopped wrestling, not because we’re aligned.
Don’t Let Peace Deceive You
Peace is powerful, but it’s not always prophetic.
Satan doesn’t just show up as fear, he can also show up as calm indifference.
He won’t always shake your world, sometimes, he’ll just rock you to sleep.
So if you’re making a decision that “feels peaceful,” pause.
Ask God: Is this Your peace, or my soul’s silence?
Because real peace is not the absence of trouble, it’s the presence of God in the middle of obedience.
And sometimes, peace comes not when you run from Nineveh, but when you walk toward it.
