The Silent Gap Between Parents and Youth – And How We Can Heal It

Written by:

Families today are living under one roof but speaking entirely different emotional languages.

Parents are trying their best, often navigating pressures they never talk about.
Teens and young adults are carrying feelings they don’t know how to express.
And between both generations is a quiet distance that keeps growing, not out of lack of love, but lack of understanding.

Many homes are full of unspoken stories:
• A parent wishing they had more time.
• A child wishing they felt understood.
• A young adult still holding onto memories that shaped them more than their parents realize.

We rarely talk about it.
We carry it.
And the silence slowly becomes the problem.

This is the gap the Generational Dialogue event is created to address — a space where parents, teens, and young adults can finally sit together and speak the truths they’ve carried for years.

The dialogue is inspired by my new book, Letters to My Parents, a collection of 20 real stories from young people aged 13 to 30. These stories reveal what many of us felt growing up but never found the courage or words to express. They show us the heart of the problem, but also the possibility of healing.

And we are not just discussing issues, we are offering support.
With counsellors available throughout the program, families will have emotional guidance as they open up, process, and reflect.

If you’re a parent, this event invites you to hear your child in a way you may never have heard them before.
If you are a youth or young adult, it gives you a safe place to finally express the feelings you’ve carried alone.
And if you are simply someone who believes in healing, this conversation will shift how you see your family and yourself.

Healing doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens when we choose to talk, to listen, and to understand.

On December 6th, we’re creating that room, one afternoon that could begin a new chapter for many families.

Parents, come with your youth.
Youth, come with your parents.
Let’s talk. Let’s understand each other. Let’s start healing.
